Collin received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and is currently working in wind energy. While Collin just started his involvement with the Iowa Professionals EWB chapter in 2018, he has already helped plan a water distribution center with the Chicago EWB chapter. Other than engineering, his interests include travel - he studied abroad in London as well as lived in Chile for eight months - reading non-fiction, health and longevity, and watching his favorite sports teams: Chelsea, ND football and basketball, NY Mets, and the NY Giants.
Ed was employed by the Iowa DOT for the last 30ish years until retiring in June this year. Prior to that, Ed was employed as a civilian for the Navy at NSWC Crane, in Indiana, where he did work with battery testing for missiles, submarines, etc.
Bailey has an array of project experience from her background in civil engineering, but she's always been environmentally geared. Now, as a Water Resource Engineer, she focuses on sustainable watershed planning and design. Bailey is also currently the president of the Iowa Professional Chapter of Engineers without Borders, and she has traveled to El Salvador multiple times to work on water-related projects. Beyond engineering, she enjoys spending time outside, often with her Australian Shepherd dog, Ruby.
Matthew is a compassionate scientist interested in preserving, protecting and conserving water. He graduated from University of Iowa with a B.S. in General Science; received his M.A. in Biology from University of Northern Iowa, and also attended Kirkwood Community College to receive an AAS in Water Environmental Technology. Currently, Matthew is developing a business - MB Water - for water quality monitoring. He is working to advise landowners and farmers in reduction of nutrient flow into Iowa’s surface water, analyze local ecosystems to help maintain the health of our aquatic ecology, and assist public water and wastewater management to comply with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements. While Matthew is a new member of the Iowa Professionals Chapter, he has experience teaching science in Honduras and has been a Watershed Manager for two watersheds.
Becky received a BS in Civil Engineering in 1982 from the University of Iowa. She then worked for the Corps of Engineers Omaha District for two years before earning her MS in Environmental Engineering in 1986 from the University of Texas at Austin. Becky then spent thirteen years with CH2M HILL (now Jacobs) in Florida and North Carolina before moving back to Iowa City where she grew up. She spent the last 20 years of her career with Stanley Consultants, retiring in 2022. She specialized in water quality projects, pollution prevention, and the cleanup of contaminated sites. Her first trip to El Salvador was in 2017. She loved the people and was very impressed with the work that the Mangrove Association is doing. The way the communities work together to help each other and improve the environment is an example that should be followed in the US. One of the things Becky loves about our EWB chapter is working with students. Their excitement and enthusiasm remind her why she loves engineering.
A member of the Iowa Professionals Chapter of EWB since 2011. Retired from Stanley Consultants in 2017 as Associate Chief Structural Engineer after 33 years of service. Career involved many large civil, industrial, and utility projects, both domestic and international. Re-retired from Watersmith Engineering in 2023 after working part-time on small civil projects in eastern Iowa.
Work for EWB includes the design and construction assistance for two water storage tanks for the village of Tierra Blanca in El Salvador, investigation of water system improvements for the village of Puerta Prada in El Salvador, and the installation of a solar-powered water pump for the village of Isle Monte Cristo in El Salvador. These projects have included three separate trips to El Salvador.
Kaleb is currently working on a PhD in hydrologic modeling, looking to incorporate tile drainage into a WRF-Hydro model of Iowa for better streamflow forecasting.
Besides that, he wrestled at Iowa during undergrad. Kaleb is married with two dogs, and he likes to bike, hike, rock climb and hunt.
Scott holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Northern Illinois University and an Associates in Robotics/Automation from Indian Hills Community College. Scott has worked as a Controls Engineer at Stanley since 2008. He has worked on all types of projects at his time with Stanley, water pumping and distribution, wastewater treatment, power generation, and even fish monitoring; anything with a control system. With EWB for only a short time, he has worked with a Minnesota chapter to help sort out automation of a well water pumping system and is looking forward to more adventures. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking through national parks with his wife and kids, building classic cars, and tinkering with anything mechanical.
Adam is currently a graduate student in environmental engineering at the University of Iowa, researching water quality and nutrient modeling in Iowa. He completed his Bachelor’s in chemical engineering from Iowa in May 2019. Adam has been working with the Iowa Professional EWB Chapter since 2018 and traveled to El Salvador with the team that summer. He enjoys working alongside the other team members, both Americans and locals, and learning more about engineering while also working on his Spanish skills. Outside of engineering, Adam enjoys running, skiing, climbing, and enjoying all aspects of the outdoors.
